Mamá y Mujer explores motherhood and womanhood through love and self-discovery. Dr. Villagómez is a passionate woman. She is an educator, author, community leader, traveler, mother, wife, and lifelong learner who believes that a meaningful life is built through purpose, relationships, curiosity, and service. With more than two decades in education, María began her career as a bilingual teacher and professor of Spanish and ESL before moving into academic leadership. Today, she works to expand opportunities for students and strengthen the institutions and communities she serves. At the heart of María’s work is a deep belief that education can change lives and that every student deserves to feel seen, valued, and capable of achieving their dreams. Her commitment to students, culture, and community has shaped a career devoted to creating pathways and opportunities for others. María is also a writer and author, using storytelling to celebrate culture, family, language, and the experiences that shape us. Her published work includes bilingual children's books and writing that explores heritage, identity, family, and the richness of bilingual life. For María, writing is another way of preserving stories, honoring those who came before her, and leaving something meaningful for those who come after. She is especially grateful for the women who have shaped her life, her grandmother and mother, her sisters and nieces, her cherished friends, and the mentors who have encouraged, challenged, and inspired her along the way. Their strength, wisdom, love, sacrifices, and example have helped shape the woman she is today. María believes deeply in the power of women supporting women and feels a responsibility to carry those lessons forward by encouraging and uplifting the next generation. María is also a citizen of the world at heart. She loves to travel and has explored places around the world with a genuine curiosity about how other people live, think, celebrate, and connect. For her, travel is about much more than seeing beautiful places, it is about discovering new ways of being, appreciating different cultures, meeting people, and experiencing the stories and traditions found in food and cuisine. Every journey offers another lesson and another opportunity to see the world a little differently. And while María is passionate about her career and community, her greatest joys are found in the people she loves. She is a devoted mother and wife and treasures the beautiful, sometimes messy, always meaningful journey of family life. Now in her 50s, she is embracing this chapter of womanhood with gratitude, confidence, curiosity, and joy. She celebrates the wisdom that comes with age while continuing to explore, learn, laugh, love, travel, create, and discover new dimensions of herself. Giving back is another important part of who María is. She serves her community through non-profit organizations and has dedicated countless years to mentoring, volunteering, and creating opportunities for young people and families. María’s story is one of cultura, familia, education, womanhood, adventure, and service. She carries deep pride in her roots while remaining curious about the world and all the possibilities life holds. She believes in working hard, opening doors for others, honoring the people who helped pave the way, enjoying a great meal, traveling somewhere new, laughing with the people she loves, and making time to simply enjoy being alive. At this stage of her life, María is not just building a legacy, she is savoring the journey.
