Dr. María L. Villagómez is the daughter of Mexican immigrants. She is the first in her family to graduate from high school and from college. She was born in Ventura, CA but was raised by her grandmother in Mexico. At age fourteen, she returned to the United States to continue her education. She holds a Bachelor's and a Master's Degree in Spanish with a concentration in literature, culture and linguistics and a second Master's degree in Education with an concentration in Curriculum, Teaching and Learning as well as a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Currently, Dr. Villagómez is an Academic Administrator at a city college in California, USA, but she has taught Spanish, ESL and Education courses in higher education for over eighteen years. Dr. Villagómez has translated children's books from English to Spanish and was the Spanish and Cultural Consultant to Universal Kid's TV show Nina's World and also has been a consultant for Moonbug Entertainment. In 2020, Dr. Villagómez received an Honorable Mention for her book Los pueblitos, Small Towns, from the International Latino Book Awards organization. Dr. Villagómez wrote three bilingual children's books in honor of her childhood memories and in honor of happy children all around the world. The books are: Small Towns, Los pueblitos, My Grandma, Mi abuelita, and Farmworkers, Los campesinos.
